"Was lauft..." / TeleBasel (Daniel Bossart)
LeisureLand 2 is a second version of our famous installation LeisureLand. We have been invited by Plug.in (Galerie für Neue Medien, Basel) to make a collection of interactive sound installations and to show them in the rooms of the gallery. LeisureLand 2 is a collection of shown works and new ideas. We improved some of our old ideas and also made some new ones. Our Soundmemory is now shown as console. Also improved with a more stable design are the stars. New ideas are the telephon, the sound table and the reactive mirror. Next to the already shown toypets (Bär & Zebra) there are two new ones.
SoundTable
The SoundTable is an interactive picture. Our civilisation as foto collage. Under the collage there are eigth lightsensitive sensors build into the table platter. The table is illuminated from above with a strong light. Shadows, caused by hands or other bodyparts, trigger the sensors. You hear what you see: City, industrial Aerea, two different rural soundscapes, alpine soundscape, an asian mountain soundscape, coast and spacestation.
Telephon
The phone akts like every normal phone too. Pick up, dial and wait. But then, confusion. You will be confronted with messages of people spoken onto a answering machine. As soon they have said what was to say they hang up and leave you alone.
The Mirror
See, what you speak. Our mirror can do. A microphone detects your words or the claping of your hands and moves the surface of the mirror. How does this work? The microphone input gets scaled so there are no zero crossings anymore. Then this signal is used to modulate a zero-hertz-sinusoid. In easy words: The coil of a loudspeaker is moving analog to the amplitude of the inputsignal. The loudspeaker then moves the mirrorfoil.
The Lounge
Sit down and eavesdrop. Touch the flowers and eavesdrop. A small lounge with a comfortable chair surrounded by flowers. Antennas of Theremins are build into the flowers an therefor the flowers react on proximity of human bodys by playing soundfiles. Also the chair is sensitive and knows if somebody sits on it. So the chair also plays music. Only the footprop does not like it to be used. It reacts by insulting you.
Memory
Our popular and often shown Soundmemory, now as console. Find the eight corresponding soundfiles.
Bear & Zebra
Back on stage. Our smallest and sweetest coworkers. The Jingle-Bear and the Kiss-me-Zebra.
Red & Brown
The philosophic donkeys. Red and Brown are chatting and complainig about their momentary situation, beeing wired and exhibitioned. They try to console themselves and sigh. Controll the dialogues by alternate touching of the toypets. Become a puppet yourself.
SingingStars
How the stars sound? We know. Seven lightsensitive sensors camouflaged as stars are hanging on the wall in formation of the great bear. In front of the wall there is a chair with two laserpointers. Light up the stars with the laserbeams. Doing so you will modulate a soundfile. Seven stars allow 2 exp 7 = 128 different possibilities of combinations.
The Pond
Singing reed and rumpling bridge. Hit the flower jackpot. Our pond is an impressionistic interpretation of a landscape. The floor is covered by mats with mikrophones build in. Drop small stones onto the imaginary water surface and hear the splashing. Move the reed and listen to the songs of fortune.
